Who we are

Stirrup is an iPhone alarm app for shift workers. It helps you wake up for night shifts, rotating shifts, and early starts.

What Stirrup stores on your phone

Stirrup works without an account. These items stay on your device unless you later connect an optional service:

  • Alarm times, titles, repeat rules, and on/off state
  • Settings such as snooze length, vacation mode, Stop Challenges, Shift Alarm Buffer, and the default alarm sound
  • Backup Contact names and phone numbers you add
  • Your phone number, if you enter it so a Backup Contact can call you back
  • Schedule files you import (CSV or Excel) and shifts you enter manually, processed on the device
  • Home and work places you save for the commute card

We do not sell this information. We do not use it for advertising.

What leaves your phone

Crash reports and alarm timing (Sentry)

If the app crashes, we may receive a crash report through Sentry (app version, device type, OS version, stack trace). We turn off session replay and do not ask Sentry to attach your name or email. If a phone number appears in a log line, we try to redact it.

When you stop or snooze an alarm, the app sends Sentry the time the alarm was due, the time you acted, and how it was handled (for example, the lock screen or the full-screen alarm, whether Stop Challenges were on, and whether it repeats), along with the app version and device type. It does not send the alarm’s name, notes, your Backup Contact’s name or number, your schedule, or your location. We use this to check that alarms ring on time and to report reliability in aggregate.

Commute card (Apple Weather and TomTom)

If you save a home or work place, the commute card can show weather and traffic updates after you stop an alarm. For weather, the app sends the location of your saved home to Apple Weather. For traffic updates, it sends the locations of your saved home and work to TomTom. If no places are saved, nothing is sent. When you search for a place or use your current location to set one, iOS looks it up through Apple’s location services. We do not keep these locations on our own servers. Apple and TomTom handle each request under their own privacy terms.

Backup Contact texts (not live yet)

Live texts are not on in this version. Until they are, a missed alarm shows an on-phone TEST notice instead of sending a text. When they are turned on, the app will register each alarm that has a Backup Contact with our server: the alarm’s deadline, a random code created on your phone, the Backup Contact’s mobile number, and your name and callback number if you entered one. We need the number on the server because your phone may be asleep at the deadline. We delete all of it when the deadline is cancelled or the text is sent. We send the number and message to our SMS provider, Twilio, only to deliver the text. We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We also do not share mobile numbers or text-messaging opt-in information with affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Workplace calendar

This version does not sign in to a workplace calendar. A schedule on the phone is a CSV or Excel spreadsheet you upload, shifts you enter manually, or an alarm you set by hand.

Photo schedule reading

Reading a schedule from a photo is off in this version. We do not upload photos of your schedule.

Notifications, alarms, and Live Activities

Stirrup uses iOS notifications, optional Live Activities, and, on iOS 26 and later, Apple’s system alarm API so an alarm can ring when the phone is locked, silent, or in Focus. We do not get a copy of your lock-screen contents.

Tracking

Stirrup does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Children

Stirrup is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

How long we keep data

On-device alarms and settings stay until you delete them or delete the app. Crash reports and alarm-timing events are kept under our Sentry retention settings, then aged out. When live Backup Contact texts are on, our server deletes each alarm’s row when the deadline is cancelled or the text is sent. SMS provider logs follow that provider’s rules.

Your choices

  • Delete an alarm, a Backup Contact, or an uploaded schedule from the app
  • Turn off vacation mode, Stop Challenges, or notifications in the app or in iOS Settings
  • Clear your saved home and work places from the app to stop commute card requests
  • Delete the app to remove on-device data
  • Email aaron@getstirrup.com for help with crash-report data

Changes

We will update this page when live SMS or the crash-reporting setup changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change.
